Chloe Chlumecky
View from the Window

September 17th - October 10th, 2026
Reception: Friday September 18th, 7-9PM

This body of work emerged from Chloe’s recent artist residency in France, where she spent two weeks immersed in the interiors and landscapes of a nineteenth-century château. The paintings that came from her stay explore the idea of place, and how the experience of inhabiting an unfamiliar environment can become intertwined with memory and a sense of belonging.

Light became a constant presence throughout her stay, shifting across rooms and landscapes and transforming the familiar into something romantic and fleeting. Working from photographs and small painting studies made throughout the residency, Chloe brought these moments back to her studio in Canada, reimagining them as more complete impressions of a place remembered. The paintings exist somewhere between observation and recollection, capturing not only the physical character of a place, but the feeling of having been there and the inevitable passage of time that begins to transform experience into memory.
